Sunday 5th of January

Gloomy Funeral weather, perfectly fitted for such a special occasion such as the first black mass of the year.

The entrance of the venue, barely visible through the thick fog that surrounded us at first, was the first step of the night. Welcoming us intimately into the vintage stage, no barriers, close enough to share breath with the artists .

Punctuality is a must, and so as the clock hit 18.00 pm the first show started, Parisian band Kami No Ikari introduced themselves brilliantly, with their perfect coordinate outfits, a hint to the asian culture such as their name. Their music sounded deep and heavy, a well balanced mix of classic deathcore with typical breakdowns and melodic harmonies . Frontman’s energy and will of entertaining the audience was absolutely contagious . Enjoyable set full of head banging, allowing us to warm up, quite perfeclty for the rest of the night .

And so it goes on, after a quick visit to the Merchandise booth, which had us nearly ruined, Ex Deo began their set. A super deep Roman Atmosphere fell on stage . Band members came in as centurions from Ancient Rome, reminding us that looks really can make the difference. Opening with ‘Imperator’ the expectations were high, and never disappointed as the set got on, through high pitched screams, profound and loyal participation from the crowd all we can say is that singing about Rome and its marvellous culture Is a real marvel, and we were, just as Romulus and Remo drinking from the she-wolf.

Going on the Italian Route, right after roman inspired band, Fleshgod Apocalypse from Perugia, Italy reached the stage. And what can we say about the atmosphere, let’s just say that Italians have a real sense of style. Observing the preparing of the stage, an old fashioned piano with candlelights appeared. Promising us high class symphonic tunes. But it’s their turn, and who says that Italians are proud of their country is absolutely right because that’s with an enormous Italian flag that veronica, the Female opera singer, came in with Ode To Art , a perfect opening that set the tone for the whole high level quality of their show. Killer setlist based, all right most on their latest album, that meant, we all know, so much for former lead guitar player and singer, after his tragical accident. But nonetheless well balanced in general. Their sound is deep, ancient at times, classy, and may I say almost sophisticated. A perfect mix of both Worlds, between Italian Opera and Death Metal. A match made in heaven (or hell ?) we believe. Probably, the smile and the energy of veronica helped a lot. Perfectly receptive crowd, we can feel that this band is much appreciated when the whole venue shouted all together to Pendulum . Of course a banger . the end came still to quickly anyways .

And here we go, the almighty headliner. The funeral we have been waiting for. Dark blue lights, fog, black atmosphere. it all reminded us of an old fashioned vampire movie, and it is precisely like this that they entered. Nosferatu, first song. Wearing a black cape, Andreas began his mass, a funeral song, our favourite. Corpse paint on obviously, the set had started, allowing us to sold our souls to the unholy lord. No need much to impress, we are already used to this, under the spell from the beginning and to our grave. Balanced set with oldies but goodies and fan favourites. certainly Dark Funeral knows exactly how to play, malevolent riffs, their black metal is authentic, old but it still works. Of course we allowed the devil in during this funeral and believe me god couldn’t have been further away that night .
